Scope: The record group contains newspaper scrapbooks and loose clipping files created by The City of Oklahoma City employees. The clippings and subject files pertain to the history and development of The City. Newspapers represented in the collection are Bluff Creek Bubble No. 2, The Capitol Hill Beacon, The Capitol Tribune, The Daily Oklahoman, The Daily Law Record, The Daily Record, East Side News, The Journal Record, The Oklahoma Journal, The Oklahoma Times, The Public Ledger and The Weekly Downtowner. Scrapbooks. Box 1 - 7 Volumes 1 – 15. 1937 – 1940. The City of Oklahoma City employee scrapbooks. Subjects include events and incidents involving city departments, death notices of city employees, removal and appointment of city employees, bond and municipal elections. Volumes 16 – 29, 1960 – 1965. The City Planning Director Paul Gower’s office scrapbooks. The City Planning Department provided building, electrical and plumbing inspection services. Volume 30. Tinker (Tinker Air Force Base) scrapbook, February – August 1973, pertains to the 1973 proposed $10.8 million bond to acquire 868 tracts of land under the main north-south runway. Subject Files. Box 8 - 9 Contents were assembled from files and papers located in The City Clerk’s office. The topics cover the history and government of The City of Oklahoma City. Clippings and Subject Files, Box 10 [Oversized] Newspaper sections, clippings and poster related to The City of Oklahoma City and the 75th Anniversary celebration. Clippings from The City of Oklahoma City Planning Department include The Skirvin Hotel Renovation, 1993 – 2004 and subject clipping files from the American Indian Cultural Center through the Stockyards.
History: The City of Oklahoma City employees and The City of Oklahoma City, City Clerk's office created newspaper and loose clippings scrapbooks. The Skirvin Hotel renovation and Planning Department documents were transferred to the City Clerk's office by The City of Oklahoma City's Planning Department, 2013 and 2014. Subject files were created from materials collected from the City Clerk's office. This group of materials has been culled together due to the ephemeral nature. It is organized topically.
